I'm Stealing The Covers
Ok, so I'm doing 2 things with this post - stealing an idea from PammyJean, and promising not to be serious ('cause I've got so much to bitch about right now, but I haven't done anything fun with this blog-thing yet)...so here goes.
PammyJean likes to have people who visit her blog (see "Stuff I Like To Look At") answer questions - sometimes deep questions, sometimes frivolous ones (like the one she did today - TASTY!....) So, I'm going to do a frivolous one of my own.... I have been planning for months now to make a CD of cover songs, but I only have so many in my music collection. For example, Duran Duran does a cover of "White Lines" by Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, or Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra" redone by Sugar Ray.
The question: what are your favorite cover songs? And don't forget to tell me who did it, so I can try to include them on my CD (I WILL get around to actually making it!) ;-)
4 Comments:
There are several, but for reasons I can't fathom right now, the one that jumps to mind is "Smooth Criminal (Annie Are You Okay)", originally by Michael Jackson, redone by Alien Ant Farm.
Dammit, now that's stuck in my head. La, la lalala....
Okay, it's a short list ;-)
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Marilyn Manson - Personal Jesus
U2 - Night And Day
Cake - I Will Survive
Lenny Kravitz - American Woman
David Lee Roth - California Girls
Gary Hoey - Hocus Pocus
Sheryl Crow - The First Cut Is The Deepest
Ugly Kid Joe - Cats In The Cradle

Pearl Jam - Last Kiss
Los Lobos - La Bamba

Anyhoo, lots of good cover songs over the years. My first fave was The Flying Lizards "Money (That's What I Want)." Most recently, I like Final Fantasy's "Peach Plum Pear," but you're gonna have a tough time finding a recording of that unless you see Owen live or dig up an MP3 somewhere. Probably help if you're familiar with Joanna Newsome's original version, too.
Nichelle, you should start a CD Club like the Bitter Buffalo CD Club! It's a great way to spread the music fun and make friends. Ask Pat. He'll tell ya.
